FisherKing Casts a Wide Net on Indie Music Scene
Emerging onto the music scene in 2008, FisherKing is fast stamping its own brand of music on the indie scene.
In a competitive market with numerous bands jostling for airtime and precious few gigs, FisherKing have risen above the pack with an inspired and energetic take on indie rock that is rapidly building a large and loyal fan base.
Heartfelt lyrics, memorable melodies and buzzing pop hooks have seen FisherKing claim their place among the best in the music scene.
The band first grabbed the public’s attention in 2009 when they released their self- titled EP. Hot on the heels of that success FisherKing won Triple J’s Unearthed FUSE Festival Competition, a hotly contested musical shootout that imprinted their signature sound on a new generation of fans.Since then the boys have been busy writing and recording their highly anticipated debut album, Circles, available November 5th 2010.
Recorded in Sydney with highly regarded producer Genevieve Maynard, Circles is a diverse album, showcasing the band’s talent through edgy indie rock tracks and gorgeous ballads while maintaining a uniquely coastal sound.
The emotional lyrics, uplifting beats and intricate guitar melodies that run through the album can also be found in FisherKing’s single ‘Start Again’ (released October 1st).
FisherKing are at their most comfortable on stage and perform regular live shows. A strong stage presence and emotional link with their audience build a dynamic yet soulful vibe. The band is planning an East Coast tour at the end of the year to coincide with the launch of the new album.
Lead singer, songwriter Sam Stephenson said the band couldn’t wait to hit the road to promote the new album. “We’re really proud of the new album. It’s something we wanted to take the time with and we’re sure that people are really going to love it. We’ve pushed things into a new direction with this one but it’s still got all of the cruisy charm of the EP” he said.
"Cruisy, but really confident stuff. Each of their songs paints a strong picture of an act with loads of potential." - Richard Kingsmill, 'Unearthed', Triple J
